Disabled Amarpreet draws painting with feet, wins gold medal

He is suffering from cerebral palsy since the time of his birth and because of that he couldn’t move his legs and feet. Just 2 days after his birth, he suffered from jaundice which further weakened his body and also impaired his speech. But he has his listening faculties intact and it is due to his sheer willpower that he has come up in life. This 20 year old is now studying in 8th standard at Government High School, Dadheri.

FATEHGARH SAHIB: A classic example of dedication and determination to move forward in life has been set by Amarpreet Singh of Mandi Gobindgarh. He is suffering from cerebral palsy since the time of his birth and because of that he couldn’t move his legs and feet. Just 2 days after his birth, he suffered from jaundice which further weakened his body and also impaired his speech. But he has his listening faculties intact and it is due to his sheer willpower that he has come up in life. This 20 year old is now studying in 8th standard at Government High School, Dadheri.

Disclosing details about him, his mother Parminder Kaur said that Amarpreet manages to accomplish all those works which even normal healthy children can’t do. Due to immobility of his hands, he taught himself to write with the help of his feet. She further said that Amarpreet is very fond of studies and aims to become a teacher. She elaborated that Amarpreet needs help only at the time of eating while doing the rest of chores himself right from bathing and other activities. He has also remained monitor of his class.
Special Teacher of Education Department Charanjit Kaur says that when Amarpreet’s physiotherapy was done by the Department’s physiotherapist Dr. Maninder Kaur in resource center under I.E.D. component of Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan, then the stiffness in his body started to slowly dissipate and he started developing physical and psychological faculties as well. She also informed that Amarpreet goes to school in his tricycle and writes with his left foot, uses mobile phone efficiently and operates internet.

Divulging more , she said that Amarpreet even won a gold medal in drawing at the State Level competitions for special children in December 2010 held at Fatehgarh Sahib. He prepared the drawing with the help of his feet and even made a calendar of 2013 besides making National Flag, all with the aid of his foot.
District Special educator Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur said that Amarpreet gets books, uniform, tricycle besides free of cost special education under Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan and disability pension and railway, bus passes. His physiotherapy sessions are also held regularly. She said that children with special needs are provided free of cost special education from 8th-9th till 12th standard under Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan so that special children also get the equal opportunities to succeed in life just like other normal children.
