AMRITSAR: Under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, the Department of Psychology successfully organized a “Mental Health and Nasha Mukt Samaaj Layi Jaagrookta Camp” in Ranghadh village, District Amritsar. This initiative was a significant step towards promoting mental health awareness and combating substance abuse in rural Punjab.
The camp focused on key areas, including Family Awareness – Emphasizing the role of families in preventing drug addiction and supporting rehabilitation. Impact of Drugs – Discussing the psychological, emotional, and physical consequences of substance abuse. Rehabilitation Strategies – Exploring effective ways to help individuals recover from addiction. Community Involvement – Encouraging social initiatives for a drug-free society.
A large number of village residents actively participated in the event, seeking psychological guidance and support. Their concerns were addressed by Dr. Rupan Dhillon (Head, Department of Psychology), Dr. Balbinder Singh (Assistant Professor, Psychology), PhD scholars, and Diploma students from the department. The camp witnessed overwhelming cooperation from Suman Preet Kaur (Sarpanch, Ranghadh) and her husband, S. Shamsher Singh, whose efforts significantly contributed to the success of the event.
