AMRITSAR: Following a rigorous state level scrutiny, Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Lecturer in Physics, Government Victoria Girls School, Patiala bagged the Teacher of the Year award winning Rs.One lakh cash and citation at 'Teacher of the Year of Punjab Award-2022' organized at Khalsa College of Educatio. The second position was bagged by Sartaj Singh, Lecturer in Chemistry, Government Senior Secondary School, Gagobua, Tarn Taran while Nirmaljit Kaur from Government Elementary School, Dhotan, Khadoor Sahib, was awarded with third position.
The award constituted with the financial help from Khalsa Global Reach Foundation (US) aims to identify and encourage the teaching community to take up the noble cause of dissemination of knowledge, said Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honorary Secretary, Khalsa College Governing Council who was the chief guest at the program. He said that teachers lay the foundation of any society and they always make their special contribution in the creation of educated and just new society.
Dr. PK Sahu, former Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University who was guest of honour said the education scenario was changing and the teachers’ job is becoming more and more challenging. Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur who welcomed the guests said they received more than 60 entries for the award and the judges had tough times to identify the best teachers. She said teachers who have been awarded have made special achievements in their own field and have provided proper intellectual environment for their students.
Global Foundation’s Chief Dr. Bakshish Singh in a televised address from USA said such awards are source of inspiration for teachers. He said that about teachers from across Punjab had sent applications for this award, out of which 10 teachers were selected and given a special invitation for the program today. He said they have constituted the award to give impetus to school education. Foundation’s Co Convenor Dr.Sarbjit Singh Hoshiar Nagar said when youth are flying to foreign countries one the good teachers can stop this trend by giving quality education.
Apart from this, Jagtar Singh Sokhi, Punjabi Teacher, Government Middle School, Kabarwachha, Ferozepur, was honored with the Punjabi Bhasha Ratna Award for his contributions to promote Punjabi language. He was honored with Rs. 10, 000/- cash and an appreciation certificate. Along with this, Teachers namely Narinder Singh, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Rumani Ahuja, Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Sushil Kumar, Rupinderjit Kaur were given special honours.
