Workshop on Beyond the Words: Decoding the language of Insects

MOHALI: Under the aegis of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, NCSTC & DST, Department of Life Sciences, Rayat Bahra University organised a workshop on Beyond the Words:Decoding the language of Insects to enlighten the participants on various aspects insects communication in the environment under the guidance of Worthy Vice-Chancellor Sir and Convene-ship of Prof. (Dr.) Simerjit Kaur, Dean Students Welfare.

Dr. Lalit Mohan from, Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Deemed to be University), Agra stated that insects have developed numerous ways of communicating and interacting with one another. He discussed various modes of insect communications; Chemical communication, Visual communication, Auditory communication, Tactile communication, Vibrational communication etc.

Vice Chancellor, Dr. Parvinder Singh appreciated the efforts for organising workshops on the unique theme and stated the significance of insects & their role in maintaining the ecological balance in the ecosystem.

Dr. Simerjit Kaur stated that insects use an elaborate language of chemical signals for daily survival and interactions. She further highlighted that Insects use chemical signals to find mates, hunt for food and avoid becoming prey themselves.

Dr. Preeti Sharma Rawat proposed a vote of thanks to all the participants and to the speaker of the day for sharing valuable information on insect signalling..
