DHARAMSALA: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Kangra Police have taken stringent action under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS). Kiran Kumar, son of Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 9, Sakoh, Tehsil Dharamshala, has been sent to jail for three months under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act. This marks the first case of preventive detention under NDPS in the district.

Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri stated that Kiran Kumar had been persistently involved in the illegal drug trade, with six cases already registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Given the repeated offenses and the severe impact on society, Kangra Police proposed preventive detention to the Himachal Pradesh government, which approved the action.

The move sends a strong message to drug traffickers and highlights the zero-tolerance policy of the police and administration toward narcotics. "This strict action reaffirms our commitment to eradicating drug trafficking from the region, " said SP Agnihotri.

The Kangra Police continue to intensify their crackdown on drug-related crimes, aiming to create a drug-free society and ensure public safety.
