AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar celebrated Earth Day under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh with great zeal and environmental consciousness. The event was jointly organized by the College Development Council and the NSS Unit GNDU.
The Earth Day Rally was flagged off by Registrar, Dr. K.S. Chahal, Dean Student Welfare, Dr. H.S. Saini and Dr. Saroj Arora, Dean College Development Council. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who carried messages promoting eco-sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The celebration, sponsored by the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India, aimed to spread awareness about environmental protection under the ongoing Lifestyle for Environment Mission (2024-25).
The event was successfully coordinated by Programme Officers Dr. Harkirandeep Kaur and Dr. Palwinder Singh Bhatia, who motivated students to actively participate in various activities. Speaking on the occasion, NSS Coordinator Dr. Balbir Singh said, "Youth are the torchbearers of change. Through events like these, we inspire students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives and contribute towards the global mission of environmental restoration."
Highlights of the day included a Rally on Earth Day, a Poster Making Competition, and innovative DIY activities using waste materials to encourage creativity and promote sustainable living. Dr. Amandeep Singh (Director, Youth Welfare Department), Dr. Harsandaldeep Kaur (Head, USFS), and Dr. P.S. Malhi distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. On this occasion, Dr. Sunil, Dr. Sarabjit Kaur, Dr. Meenu Verma, Dr. Nidhi, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Dr. Manjeet Singh, Dr. Rahul Thori, and Mr. Gurvinder Singh (Landscape Officer) were also present and motivated the students through their valuable words.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a greener, cleaner planet, inspiring students to continue making a positive impact on the environment.
