Punjab Police arrests leftist leader Malwinder Singh Mali for hurting religious sentiments of a community

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police today arrested Malwinder ingh Mali a former leftist leader aligned with CPI(M) and former media advisor of former SGPC president late Gurcharan Singh Tohra and political advisor of former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

It is learnt that Mohali police raided the house of brother of Mali in Patiala and took Mali with them. Ranjit Singh Grewal younger brother of Mali confirmed the arrest and said police informed that Mali was booked for hurting religious sentiments of a community.

The police sources said that he was arrested under section 295A of IPC for hurting religious sentiments. He had allegedly made some comments on AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal and PM Narender Modi. He called Kejriwal Mata Sita and Modi as Bhagwan Ram. Mali is regular commentator for many you tube channels and is known for his criticism of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Mali who had retired as a teacher from Government of Punjab was also associated with the Naxalite movement. He was state president of Punjab Students Union (PSU) for a long time.
