Kashmir Singh former chairman of Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission dies at 90

AMRITSAR: A noted Sikh personality and former chairman Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission Amritsar Mr. Kashmir Singh dies at 90 after a prolonged illness.

According to his younger son Mandeep Singh Patti his father Kashmir Singh was suffering from Cancer for the last few years. At the time of death there were multiple organ failure. He breathed his last at his Chandigarh residence on Monday.

He remained chairman Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission Amritsar in the year of 1989 for three year. Again he was reappointed in the year of 2001 for the period of again three year.

He remained unopposed Sarpanch (village head) Sarai Valtoha of from 1960 to 1986.

Family says, today Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh telephonically expressed condolence over the demise of Patti.

He was born on 01st August 1930 in Village, Sarai Valtoha, then Tehsil Kasur District Lahore which presently falls in sub-division Patti, District Tarn Taran.

He completed his middle school in DAV High School, Batala as his father who was a Police Officer was posted there. However, upon his father Sardar Bachan Singh being posted in Delhi as ‘Kotwal’ immediate after partition and finally retired as Superintendent of Police at Hoshiarpur District the undivided Punjab in late fifties.

Patti studied at Khalsa College High School, Amritsar. He studied there from 9th Standard to MA economics. Alongside being a good student, he was an avid wrestler and had won many laurels in the field of wrestling. He got a role of honor for his achievements in wrestling in 1951.

After completing his law degree from University Law College, Jalandhar, Panjab University, in the year 1962, Patti started practicing law as an Advocate. Interestingly, he did not join the chambers of any senior and started his own independent practice from day one. He was elected as a member of Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana from 1983 to 1991. In the year 1986, he was awarded the plaque of honor in appreciation of the services rendered to the legal profession as the Silver Jublee Member, State Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana, Chandigarh.
