Prajakta Nilkanth Avhad appointed Chairperson of child Welfare Council

CHANDIGARH: The Governor of Punjab in his capacity as the President of Child Welfare Council (CWC) Punjab, has approved the formation of new Executive Committee with Mrs. Prajakta Nilkanth Avhad as Chairperson. The new committee is elected for a period of three years.

Disclosing this, a spokesperson said that a Lawyer by profession Mrs. Prajakta works as a mediator in Punjab & Haryana High Court and brings to new post her vast experience of working with CWC, Red Cross, Family Counselling Centres at Moga, Nawanshahar, Gurdaspur and other places in the State. She also worked for Centre for Social Research in Delhi and for ASHA in Washington DC, USA as a gender trainer, legal advisor and counsellor.

She is the founder president of a non-profit organization ‘Samvedana’, which works in the sphere of gender issues with a focus on domestic violence and legal assistance for women.

The new Chairperson spelling out her priorities, reiterated the need to harness the full potential of all the District Councils, need for a membership drive, raising funds and making the Council a vibrant platform for betterment of children in the State. The Council will reach out to needy children particularly affected during pandemic period. The Council will also reach out to other organizations working for the welfare of the Children, said Prajakta Avhad.

Meanwhile, other officer bearers viz. Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Pritam Sandhu & Treasurer, Mrs. Ratinder Brar too have vast experience in the field of Child Welfare, Child Protection, Juvenile Justice & Care. Dr. Sandhu has been former Regional Director, NIPCCD, New Delhi which is the right arm of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India and Ratinder Brar has been associated with the Child Welfare Council at District Level & HQs for the last 25 years besides being actively involved in other welfare organisations like ICSW, Senior Citizen's organisation & Red Cross.
