PHAGWARA: The exodus from the BJP in Phagwara continues, as two former BJP members, Rakesh Ghai and Arun Vashisht, re-joined the Congress under the guidance of senior Congress leader Sanjeev Bugga.
This homecoming marks a return to their political roots, as both leaders had originally left Congress to join the BJP some time ago.
Welcoming Ghai and Vashisht back to the party, Kapurthala District Congress Committee President and Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal emphasized that Punjab’s future is secure in Congress’s hands. He remarked that the people of Punjab are increasingly aware of the shortcomings in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s governance and disapprove of the BJP’s policies, which he claimed are detrimental to Punjab’s farmers and development. Dhaliwal assured Ghai and Vashisht of respect and recognition within the party, saying they would find their true place here.
Both leaders admitted that leaving Congress was a mistake and that BJP’s policies do not align with the interests of Punjab and its farmers. Highlighting the internal divisions within Phagwara BJP, they shared that factionalism had marred the local unit, making it challenging to work cohesively. “In the BJP, supporting one leader often led to conflicts with another. Returning to Congress felt like the right choice, ” they said, pledging unwavering loyalty to Congress and a commitment to advancing the party's mission.
Notably, several BJP leaders and workers in Phagwara have recently resigned and joined other political parties
The event reflected a strong spirit of community solidarity and support, with contributions from various individuals aimed at promoting social welfare
