PATIALA:Deputy Commissioner Patiala Mr. Kumar Amit paid a surprise visit to Patiala Grain Market this afternoon.  On the occasion he reviewed the procurement of paddy and asked the procurement agencies to ensure the procurement of paddy within 24 hours of its arrival in the mandis.  He also directed that lifting of procured paddy from mandis should be done as well.

PATIALA:Deputy Commissioner Patiala Mr. Kumar Amit paid a surprise visit to Patiala Grain Market this afternoon.  On the occasion he reviewed the procurement of paddy and asked the procurement agencies to ensure the procurement of paddy within 24 hours of its arrival in the mandis.  He also directed that lifting of procured paddy from mandis should be done as well.

The Deputy Commissioner strictly asked the inspectors of the procurement agencies to not to cause any inconvenience to the farmers and procure their produce immediately after the arrival and cleaning.  Mr. Kumar Amit also appealed to the farmers to bring their dry produce in the market so that they can get a fair price for their produce and they do not have to sit in the market for long.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was vigilant and had ensured that the farmers bringing their produce in the mandis would not face any problem.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kumar Amit further said that out of 111 mandis established in Patiala district, paddy has started arriving in 106 mandis during the current season.  Out of 6,97,206 metric tonnes of paddy arrived till date, 6,93,152 metric tonnes  have been procured so far.

Out of this procurement, 2,80,522 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured by Pungren, 1,68,127 metric tonnes by Markfed, 1,63,129 metric tonnes by PUNSUP, 78,930 metric tonnes by Warehouse and 2,444 metric tonnes by FCI.  However, traders have not yet started procurement of paddy.  He said that so far 99 percent of paddy has been lifted and Rs. 969.24 crore has been paid to the farmers in lieu of procured produce.
