AIPEF congratulate Punjab CM for rejecting Draft Electricity amendment bill

CHANDIGARH: All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has congratulated the Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh for rejecting  the three agriculture laws as well as the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020 which are against the interests of the farmers.

In addition to the Electricity  Amendment Bill 2020, the Union Power Ministry has also come out with draft standard bid documents that make no secret to sell out the electricity distribution sector of the entire country.

V K Gupta spokesperson AIPEF said that the proposed Electricity( Amendment) Bill 2020 and Standard Bidding Document would lead from ‘public monopoly’ to ‘private monopoly’ .There is a need for a thorough examination of the performance of existing private utilities and past privatization before taking irreversible steps.

Meanwhile, Kerala has said that the power is part of the concurrent list and it has no intention of privatizing the power sector. It has  raised strong objections to

the draft standard bidding documents (SBD) released by the Union Power Ministry in September for the privatization of state Discoms.
KSEB Chairman said that the draft SBD encroached upon the domain of the states and attempts to dictate the ways and means
for privatization of the utilities owned by them.
