AMRITSAR: Webinar on “National Bird Day 2025” with “Theme Protecting Our Birds, Protecting Our Future”was organized by Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University to create awareness regarding bird diversity and related issues.
The resource person Dr. Chander Parkash from IKG Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar delivered very informative talk on world of birds. He explained the significance of bird diversity and stressed upon the need of its conservation.
Prof. Rajinder Kaur, Head Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences discussed birds of Punjab, various threats for their existence and explained various conservation strategies for birds. She also enlightened the participants about various birds mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Dr. AvinasNagpal, Prof. M.S. Bhatti, Prof. Jatinder Kaur, Dr. Astha Bhatia (Deputy Coordinator of the webinar), Dr. Nitika Kapoor and other faculty membersof Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences also shared their views on the theme of the day. Mr. Deepak Babbar, Executive Director of Mission Aagaaz (NGO)raised the issue ofkilling of birds due to china dor and stubble burning. Mr. Kasmir Gill, a Government school teacher and member of this NGO recited a poem on the issues of bird related to their nesting problems. Students and research scholars of the Department actively participated in the webinar and recited poems and presented photos of diversity of birds of their local areas.
