Yoga posture has no significance in Sikhism: Jathedar Akal Takht

AMRIK SINGH | June 23, 2024 09:29 PM

AMRITSAR: Giani Raghbir Singh Jathedar of Akal Takht has said that yesterday in the case of a girl taking pictures of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar in yoga postures and circulating them on social media. Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib is centre of Sikh Spirituality and here the entire human race gets the message of divine unity but yoga posture has no significance in Sikhism.

Giani Raghbir Singh ordered the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to pay careful attention to the fact that in the future no such action or deed should be allowed within the complex of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib. In contrast to the modesty of Sikhism and the dignity of the Guru-ghar makes a difference.
He clearly said that everyone is blessed with their own beliefs, but Sikhs can never tolerate such ill-conceived ideas, which hurt the principles and morals of Sikhs.
In a statement issued by the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, Giani Raghbir Singh said that Sikhism is a pure and unique religion about which some forces are deliberately engaged in false propaganda.
He said that Sikhism is not a religion that abandons its surrounding society and wakes up horoscopes in the seventy two thousand veins of its body, nor is it a religion that does Nivli Karma by torturing its body and does sadhana with 84 asanas of jogis. It is an opinion but its idealism is "Nanak Satgur bhetiye puri hovai jugati". Hasandya khelandya panandya khavandya viche hovai mukti” is directed to the nirban hope. For this reason, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib is a sacred place for self-awakened souls to take advantage of the spiritual aura of Gurbani, and doing yoga postures etc. within the boundaries of this holy place, which are not recognized in Sikhism, is strictly forbidden.
Giani Raghbir Singh said that the Gurus have given Sikhs martial art like Gatka for physical exercise and Sikhs do Gatka, not yoga.
He said that the governments should also crack down on such mischievous people, who are trying to hurt the sentiments of Sikhs by following a hateful thought and spoiling the atmosphere of the society.
