Second day of Padyatra against drugs in Amritsar
AMRITSAR: The Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria with the resolve of 'Yudh Nasheyan Viruddh' today led the Padyatra for second day in Amritsar and called upon the people of Punjab to rise in unison in the war against drugs.
Today's yatra started from Oxford School and culminated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh group of colleges.
He said that Punjab is a land of Warriors and Martyrs who have made untold number of sacrifices hence this sacred land won't be allowed to be destroyed by the scourge of drugs. He further added that the security forces are burning midnight oil to foil the nefarious designs of enemies across the border who are indulging in drug trafficking. Apart from this, the Village Defence Committees are also doing praiseworthy work in the fight against drug menace.
Calling the drug menace the problem of entire country and not Punjab alone, the Governor divulged that the State Government is making all out efforts to ensure 'Nasha Mukt Punjab'. He also mentioned that the anti drone systems are being increased in number in order to put a stop to the drug supply network from across the border.
In his address at Shaheed Bhagat Singh group of college, Fatehgarh Churian, Mr. Kataria exhorted the children and the eminent personalities to come forward in ensuring drug free surroundings. He said that since the Government alone cannot eradicate the drug menace it is imperative that the common people too become a part of this campaign. He also pointed out that sports are the best way to wean the youth away from drugs and which ever village panchayat needs any help for sports related activity can contact the Deputy Commissioner of its district.
The Governor also underscored the importance of religious and moral values in keeping the children away from drugs as the visits to the religious places connects children with their inner being which keeps their attention miles away from drugs.
Among others present on the occasion included the Principal Secretary to Governor- Vivek Pratap Singh, International athlete Bahadur Singh, International Hockey player Baljit Singh, Rowing player Chandandeep Singh, DIG Satinder Singh, DC Sakshi Sawhney, District Police Chief Maninder Singh, ADC Amit Sarin, SDM Ravinder Arora, Assistant Commissioner Gursimran Kaur and State Secretary Red Cross Shivdular Singh Dhillon.
