AMRITSAR: During the paddy harvesting season of 2024, as part of the district administration's ongoing campaign to prevent the burning of paddy residue/stubble after harvesting, all village headmen were appointed as a special task force and instructed to curb the practice of stubble burning by farmers and to assist in providing farmers with the necessary equipment for managing the residue.
Providing this information, District Collector Madam Sakshi Sawhney stated that the headmen of Village Nag New, Survey No. 81, and Village Rakh Devidaspura, Survey No. 82, failed to properly fulfill their duties, which resulted in two new cases of stubble burning in the village. She further mentioned that show-cause notices were issued to these two headmen, but no response was received from them.
Therefore, using the powers granted under land revenue rules, the District Collector, after finding that both headmen of Survey No. 81, Village Nag New, and Survey No. 82, Village Rakh Devidaspura, Tehsil Amritsar-1, District Amritsar, were incapable of performing their duties, has immediately suspended them from their positions.
