SANGRUR: Following the directions of the Punjab Government, District Administration Sangrur under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal worked actively and diligently to extend the benefits of various services and welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries at the ground level throughout year 2023.
Anti-drug awareness campaign in Sangrur district was also conducted successfully to make Sangrur completely drug free on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. An exclusive initiative was also taken as 100 drug addicts were identified and apart from providing them free treatment, meaningful steps were taken to bring the youth into mainstream by providing them employment by imparting self employment trainings.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, giving information about other important initiatives, said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a pro-people initiative under the name of 'Sarkar Tuhade Duaar' from Dhuri Assembly constituency and the scheme was successfully implemented throughout the district as issues and problems of people were being resolved at their doorsteps.
Deputy Commissioner said that 'Mission Excellence' was also taken as a pilot project to improve the learning skills of 1141 students studying in 92 government schools. He said that under this, special attention was being given to students for quality education, stress reduction, time management and boosting self confidence which would enable them to secure positions in the merit list of results of board examinations.
He informed that to improve the physical health of students of government schools, another important pilot project was also started in Sangrur district under which the supplementing nutrients, iron and folic acid tablets were being given to anemic children. Apart from this, kitchen gardens were developed in the schools to grow nutritious vegetables for mid-day meals.
Deputy Commissioner said that a 'Governance Reform Center' was also dedicated to the people inside the District Administrative Complex. In this center, citizens were able to register their complaints regarding administrative services and also get information about the action being taken on their basis.
He said that the construction of new state-of-the-art tehsil complexes was also underway at Dirba and Cheema. The foundation stones of these projects were laid by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Deputy Commissioner said that reiterating the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to implement the single window system at the ground level for ease of doing business in the state, Sangrur district won the leading position among all the districts in the 'large district category'.
He told that District Sangrur also stood first across Punjab for carrying out all the activities associated with the wheat procurement in an excellent manner. Sangrur district smoothly handled wheat procurement process which included timely lifting and payment, online gate pass, vehicle tracking system and other functions. Around 8 lakh 86 thousand 353 metric tons of wheat was procured from the grain markets of Sangrur, which is about one and a half lakh metric tons more than last year and for this, about 1642 crore rupees were paid to the farmers on time.
He said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur District Library was also dedicated to the people by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann after renovation at a cost of Rs.1.12 crore. Computer Section, Air Conditioning, R.O. Along with water supply and modern landscaping, this library has seating arrangements for about 250 students.
Deputy Commissioner said that the state-of-the-art libraries were also established in the villages of district Sangrur and these were also dedicated to Punjabis by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He told that these libraries were equipped with air conditioners, inverters, CCTV Cameras, Wi-Fi and other modern facilities which are also proving boon for youth as reading hubs.
Deputy Commissioner said that the state government announced the implementation of the scheme called 'PEHEL' being successfully run in Sangrur district to make every house a production unit. He said that on the lines of district Sangrur, the uniforms of the government schools across Punjab would be stitched by the self-help groups, with which this step will prove to be a big effort towards women empowerment especially in rural areas.
He told that in order to stop the depletion of underground water level, the supply of canal water in the villages of Sangrur district had also been resumed for irrigation which was stopped from a long time.
Deputy Commissioner said that under the ongoing campaign to make the state ODF Plus, district Sangrur became the first in Punjab to be in the green zone and at the same time became the first such district in Punjab where 100 percent villages of a block, Bhawanigarh, were declared ODF Plus Aspiring. He said that the liquid waste management projects were completed in all 66 villages of Block Bhawanigarh to achieve the status.
He said that in the villages of Sangrur district, 138 Amrit Vann also known as mini forests, were flourishing on an area of 425 acres. He said that this effort was taken to increase the area under forest in Sangrur district. He said that under MGNREGA scheme, lakhs of saplings were also grown in the nurseries developed in villages.
