Punjab Crime: SHO shot dead, ASI injured by group led by AAP Sarpanch in Kot Mohammed Khan village of Tarn Taran

AMRITSAR: In a horrific incident, SHO Sub Inspector Charanjit Singh posted in Goindwal Police station was shot dead and an ASI Jasbir Singh was seriously injured by a group of miscreants including a Sarpanch of Aam Aadmi Party.

The pOlice officials had gone to village at midnight after received a call on 112 that two groups were exchanging fire and pelting stones on each other. The police party headed by Charanjit Singh reached the spot and tried to pacify the fighting groups. All of a sudden, one of the miscreant snatched the service revolver of the SHO and fired on him. The ASI Jasbir Singh was left with franctured arm and injuries on head.

The senior officers reached the villge at 1AM (past midnight) today and shifted the injured SHO and ASI to Goindwal Sahib hospital where SHO succumbed to injuries. The police swung into action and arrested about 20 persons accused of attacking police party. Atleast 30 more persons were named in the FIR.

Though there are several incidents of firing, robberies, extortions and murders reprted from Punjab almost every day, this is first instance in revent times when a police party was attacked and beaten by villagers. On April 8 last a hand grenade was thrown on house of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia at Jalandhar and it created panic among people. A firing incident was also reporrted from Jalandhar near Railway station where miscreants fired on a hotel owner.
