Nangal Govt School renamed as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence, announces Harjot Bains

NANGAL TOWNSHIP: In a befitting tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar on the occasion of 134th birth anniversary, Punjab's Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains today announced that the Government School of Eminence in Nangal has been renamed as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence.

Chairing an inauguration function at the government school, the Education Minister inaugurated 18 rooms modernised at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore, furniture worth Rs 51 lakh, and interactive panels worth Rs 7 lakh, besides laying foundation stone of an all-weather swimming pool to be built at a cost of Rs 4 crore in the school to further transforming the school into a centre of modern excellence.

The Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's lifelong fight for equality and the rights of marginalised communities. He emphasised that Dr. Ambedkar's belief in the power of education, quoting him: "Education is the milk of lioness, those who drink, Roar!" He also urged everyone to follow his teachings and strive for a more inclusive society.

Reaffirming the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government’s commitment for transformation of government schools in Punjab, S. Bains said that government schools have been equipped with modern and state-of-the-art facilities including clean drinking water, separate toilets for girls and boys, boundary walls, high speed Wi-Fi internet connections, security guards, campus managers, and transportation for students. He said a few years ago, the condition of government schools was pitiful—students had to sit on floors. Today, smart classrooms with modern furniture is available in every school, and the state schools are competing with private schools. Punjab's Sikhya Kranti is now a topic of discussion across the country, he added.

He shared the success story of a 12th-grade student, who started a T-shirt design business with Rs 2, 000 provided under the Business Blaster Program and is now earning ₹50, 000 per month with a 40% profit margin. Another student of the Nangal School , Amandeep Kaur, achieved state-level recognition in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Bains also highlighted the ongoing development of Nangal, aiming to transform it into a tourism hub. He emphasised the allocation of funds and the initiation of Nangal's first flyover, signifying a new era of growth for the region. He expressed gratitude to the people of Nangal for their support, attributing the progress to the blessings of the Guru Sahibs.

On this occasion, the school management committee honored the Education Minister Harjot Bains and other dignitaries. While Principal Kiran Sharma highlighted the school’s achievements.
