PATIALA: Under the overall initiative of SAFE PATIALA, Patiala Police has initiated a campaign, namely 'Safe Driving Culture'.
SSP Patiala, Vikram Jeet Duggal, while issuing a whatsapp number 95929 17975, to solicit suggestions/queries from the commuters, revealed that having identified black spots/ accident prone spots across the district and deputing police officers and other stakeholders to come out with the recommendations to remove bottlenecks and rectifying engineering defects on the concerned roads, the Patiala Police wants to take a leap forward towards safety of the commuters.
For this purpose, the commuters and residents have been requested to suggest steps/action to be taken to reduce traffic congestion, remove illegal parking, need of road markings and sign boards at requisite places/road stretches, road visibility/proper lighting and so on.
“They can suggest the measures to be taken, send videos, photos and text so that the suggestions and recommendations from public will be a part and parcel of the overall road safety plan of the Patiala District, under SAFE PATIALA initiative”, said the SSP.
He further added that besides doing its primary job of curbing crime and maintaining law and order, Patiala Police is now focusing on the traffic congestion and the road safety related issues.
The week ending today has been observed to make the public aware about the road safety rules, said Mr. Duggal, adding that they have been sensitised of the Zebra Crossings and Footpaths so that padesterian can cross the roads safely in the chaos of heavy traffic.
'Pedestrian Safety Campaign' has also been launched by traffic police in the week, by sensitising motorists to stop their vehicles by maintaining proper distance from the Zebra Crossings, on traffic signal.
Similarly, padestrians are being requested through announcements and messages like 'Heads Up' as they often found busy with their mobile phones even while crossing roads.
