MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary visits Phillaur grain market to take stock of wheat procurement arrangements

PHILLAUR : Jalandhar Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary on Monday took stock of wheat procurement preparations in Phillaur grain market and assured the farmers that like the previous year, Captain Amarinder Singh Government is fully prepared to purchase every grain of the harvest from them despite COVID-19 pandemic.

During the visit, MP Chaudhary met with the officials of the market committee and administration and asked them to ensure that no farmer faces any problem in the mandis. He expressed satisfaction with the preparations and said that the government has made all the necessary arrangements for the procurement season.

Speaking with the reporters present, MP Chaudhary stated that the procurement centres under Market Committee Phillaur had purchased about six lakh metric tonnes of wheat last year and more arrival is expected this year. He further said that along with providing a smooth procurement process, the steps have also been taken to make timely payment to the farmers for their produce, adding that the Punjab Government remains committed to Minimum Support Price (MSP) and mandi system.

On the COVID-19 threat, Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that the arrangements have been made for hand washing and sanitization at every purchasing centre. He instructed that the social distancing norms should be followed, no mandi should be crowded and every person coming to the market must wear a face mask.

Phillaur Market Committee Chairman Makhan Singh Khaira, Secretary Vinod Kumar, Arhtiya Association Chairman Gulshan Kumar, Goraya Market Committee Chairman Dara Singh Rai, Vice-Chairman Block Samiti Phillaur Jaswinder Singh Jassi, Food Inspector Harpreet Singh, and Lakhwinder Singh Motipur Khalsa were among those present on the occasion.
