MC Phagwara Facing acute shortage of staff, 58 out of 68. Sanctioned posts lying vacant

PHAGWARA: Municipal Corporation Phagwara having 50 municipal Wards is presently facing acute shortage of staff and the residents who are paying regular required taxes , were being deprived off several facilities in normal routine supposed to be provided by Municipal Corporation.

This Correspondent observed that out of 58 posts of clerks and officers out of total 68 sanctioned posts are lying vacant in Phagwara Municipal. Corporation.

Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh who visited Phagwara Municipal Corporation on Friday had to face tough time when several residents showered the bundle of problems being faced by them, which include illegal encroachments, non-functioning of street lights in several localities, dented roads and open violation of the rules.

Though The Minister assured the residents to redress their problems soon, but without sufficient staff how could it be possible ?

When contacted Municipal Corporation Phagwara Commissioner Navneet Bal who is ADC(General) also told This correspondent here today that the post of Joint Commissioner and Secretary(MC) are lying vacant, while out of two posts of SEs one is lying vacant, 4 posts out of five sanctioned posts of Assistant Engineers are lying vacant, six out of 8 sanctioned posts of JuniorEngineers, 4 out of five Building inspectors, all four posts of Superintendents and two of accountants are lying vacant for a long period.

Moreover 35 posts out of 40. sanctioned posts of clerks are still lying vacant for several months.

Interestingly MC Commissioner had written to Director Local Bodies several times and last request was sent on September 27, but nothing could be fruitful to fill these. Vacant posts.

Meanwhile when talked Local Bodies Minister Punjab Dr Ravjot Singh told said that local bodies department would soon be fully computerised. to facilitate the people. He was replying a question related with the peoples’ problem to deposit different taxes online specially property taxes and sewerage bills via Paytm or Google Pay etc.

Dr Ravjot also assured to remove illegal encroachments in the corporation city Phagwara and to repair dented roads. Former Minister Joginder Singh Maan , District Planning Board Chairperson Lalita Saklani, Improvement Trust Chairman Advocate Kashmir Singh Malhi, Ashok Bhatia, Market Committee Chairman Tawinder Ram, Santosh Kumar Gogi, Lal Chand Lally and other prominent were also present on the occasion .
