MOHALI: CGC Jhanjeri celebrated World Cancer Day & dedicated the day to spreading awareness campaigns “Close the Care Gap” to reduce the stigma and the fear attached to cancer. This awareness workshop was in collaboration with Fortis Healthcare, Mohali.
Recognizing that the power of knowledge on the ability to make a difference either large or small, in reducing the global impact of cancer around the world, this campaign was initiated with the keynote speaker Dr. Narendra Kumar Bhalla, Dr. Sonia Gandhi, Director of the Department of Dietetics at Fortis Healthcare & Anchal Sharma, a distinguished Counselling Psychologist.
According to Dr. Narendra Kumar Bhalla there are Various types of cancer but the most common cancers that affect people of India are lung, breast, cervical, neck, brain, and colorectal cancer. Dr. Narendra Kumar Bhalla focused on inequity in cancer care based on Income, education, location and discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and lifestyle in the country. Through statistics of the current rising figures of cancer cases across the country he brought the focus towards the need to spread awareness in the society.
According to Dr. Sonia Gandhi, lifestyle is a major cause of cancer. Early symptoms of cancer, the ways of prevention, diagnosis were also discussed at the moment to safeguard from cancer. Dr. Sonia Gandhi shared the stories of his patients and explained how an early diagnosis, timely action on the early symptoms helps the patient to deal with the problem effectively.
