At the end of March of this year, confrontations began in the qualifying groups for the European Championship 2024. This tournament will end after 12 months and the teams that took the first two places will make their way to the final stage of the competition.
In group "J" six national teams are fighting for the passage further, namely: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Iceland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. In the March segment, the teams played two matches each, and now it is more likely to assume which of them will be able to qualify for the Euro 2024.
Portugal
The “Team of the Chosen Ones” is the main favorite of the “J” sextet, which they demonstrated in the starting rounds. The main outsiders of the Liechtenstein and Luxembourg groups were defeated by the wards of Roberto Martinez. Without conceding goals, the Portuguese scored 10 goals. Ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and the company of confrontation with more formidable opponents, with whom it is quite possible to score points.
Portugal got a fairly simple group. Even in the event of a misfire in several games, the "chosen team" will be able to go further. Therefore, the Portuguese are not in vain one of the main contenders for the final stage.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Golden Lilies got off to a great start in the qualifying round, defeating Iceland 3-0 at home. Rade Krunic scored a double in that match, and Amar Dedic set the final numbers on the scoreboard. Then the "dragons" went to Bratislava, where they yielded dry to Slovakia. After two rounds, the Blue-Yellows are in third place, one point behind the second Slovaks and bypassing the fourth Icelanders in additional indicators.
The Bosnians' competitive squad and the loss to the Slovak Falcons should not be considered a tragedy. The Golden Lilies have a lot of time ahead to compete for a second ticket to the finals of the 2024 European Championship. Seriously consider the "dragons" as a contender for victory in the sextet hardly follows.
Slovakia
The “representatives” disappointed their native fans in the first round by drawing a “dry” world peace with Luxembourg at home. In the second battle in a row in Bratislava, the guys of Francesco Calzona beat Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks to accurate shots from Robert Mack and Lukas Garaslin. Thanks to these results, the Slovak Falcons finished second in the group in the spring segment. Leading by one point the third Bosnians and the second Icelanders, Juraj Kutska and company are two points behind the Portuguese.
The "representatives" have a good team that is able to compete for the second line in the sextet with the Bosnian "dragons" and the Icelandic "vikings". The Slovaks may try to get ahead of the "team of the elite", but it will be difficult to do so.
Iceland
The Vikings began their journey in the tournament with a devastating away loss to the Bosnians. The team of Arnar Vidarsson, angry with this failure, then declassed Liechtenstein in Vaduz with a score of 7:0. These results showed that the Icelanders can score a lot against more modest opponents. But with teams with powerful squads, Aron Gunnarsson and the company have difficulties.
There are very few representatives of the top leagues in the Icelandic national team, the exception is Johann Berg Gudmundsson from Burnley. It will be difficult for Vikings to compete for the next stage of the competition. Not to be at the bottom of “our guys” is within their power, but will the Icelanders be able to impose a fight on the Slovaks, Bosnians and the Portuguese.
Luxembourg
The "Red Lions" surprised a little by starting in the tournament with an away world against Slovakia. But having accepted Portugal at home, Luxembourg was declassed with a score of 0:6. At the same time, Luke Holz's men managed to take more corners than their opponents and deliver one shot on target by Rui Patricio.
The Luxembourgers have a modest squad that has never shown any serious results. This time, the main task for the Red Lions will be to get ahead of Liechtenstein and not finish last in the top six. Liechtenstein
The Red-Blues confirmed the status of the main outsider of the group and started with two devastating losses from Portugal and Iceland. From these rivals, the guys of Rene Pauric conceded 11 goals, but failed to score a single one.
Liechtenstein represents a modest national team that is not able to impose a fight on formidable opponents. If the "red-blues" can get at least one point with Luxembourg, this can be recorded as an asset to the players.
Our forecast
Liechtenstein and Luxembourg presumably won't even make it to the top three. Slovakia with Bosnia and Herzegovina, most likely, will play for the second place, and Iceland will try to compete with these teams. Given the selection of players, preference in this trio should be given to "representatives". Portugal is very likely to win the sextet.
