New York Gatka Association clinch overall trophy in US National Gatka Championship

NEW YORK: New York Gatka Association clinched the overall trophy at the 1st US National Gatka Championship at The Sikh Center of New York Inc. The event was organized by the Gatka Federation USA- an umbrella organization to manage, standardize, promote and popularize the Gatka-Sikh Martial Art in USA under the aegis of World Gatka Federation.

Kansas Gatka Association finished runners-up while NJ Gatka Association achieved third place.

This inaugural national event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 100 boys and girls representing different State Gatka Associations and Akharas in the US. The competition was jointly organized by the Gatka Federations USA in association with the host state New York Gatka chapter- New York Gatka Association.

At the time of opening ceremony and prize distribution ceremony, Gurinder Singh Khalsa Chairman, President Kalvinder Singh Fresno California, General Secretary Dr. Deep Singh, and Dr. Tinna presented the trophies to the deserving winners. He was accompanied by SS Parhar, S Daler Singh, President of the New York Gatka Association and General Secretary Jaskirat Singh, Bhai Gagandeep Singh Ranu

Officials from Gatka Federation USA Gurinder Singh Khalsa Dr. Deep Singh, Kalvinder Singh and Bhai Gagandeep Singh Ranu congratulated all winners at 1st US National Gatka Championship and thanked all volunteers for successfully organizing the national-level Gatka championship in New York. They emphasized the Federation’s commitment to promoting the Sikh martial art of Gatka and assured unwavering support for all State Gatka Associations, Akharas & Academies and players.

Results

In single Soti Individual event) Under 21 Men Event), Amritneer Singh Shaheed Baba Ajit Singh Gatka Akhara NJ came first place

In this category, Dashmesh Singh Panth Khalsa Gatka Akhara NY was second while Saravjot Singh declared third winner. NJ Gatka Association first position, NY second while Saravjot Singh from Kansas Gatka Association was the winner of third place.

In the same age and event in the Girls category Gurvinder Kaur from Kansas Gatka Association got first position, Gurbani Kaur from NJ Gatka Association second whereas Simran Kaur from New York Gatka Association achieved third position.

Single- Soti Individual event) Under 17 Girls: Oneet Kaur from Baba Ajit Singh Gatka Akhara NJ, clinched first position in Gatka.

Soti (Individual), Gurkeerath Kaur from Baba Ajit Singh Gatka Akhara NJ second while Kulrajpreet Kaur Kansas Gatka Association secured third place in this category.

In the same age & event in the Men’s category Vanshdeep Singh Akal Gatka Gurmat Group New York, Harpreet Singh from Akal Gatka Gurmat Group NY and Armanjot Singh Kansas Gatka Association secured third position.

Girls: (Under-14 Demonstration-Individual):

In this category Harnidh Kaur NY from Baba Deep Singh Gatka Academy, NY came first while demonstrating her skills in Gatka, Prabhgun Kaur from Baba Deep Singh Gatka Academy, NY second while Jasleen kaur from Sahibzada Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara Plainview, NY declared third third winner.

In the same age & event in the boys category Gurraj Singh came first in Gatka Demo, Ekamjot Singh Kansas & Puneet Singh secured third place while competing with others in this age category. Besides these winners Gurpreet Singh from Baba Deep Singh Gatka Academy, NY & Oneet Kaur secured most valuable players awards in men’s and women’s category.

Kansas Gatka Association clinched the Best team award among the participating teams at Championship.

Judgement and Referee Council:

S. Lovepreet Singh Aman (Center Referee) from Canada, Sahib Singh Canada, Sujan Singh Senior Coach, Jagjit Singh Damdami Taksal, Taranjot Singh, Jakirat Singh, Jashandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh NJ, Simran Kaur Kansas Prabhjot Singh, Gurpeet Singh, Sarabjit Kaur Westchester as Commentator, Bhai Sarabjit Singh NY and Bhai Dalbir Singh AKJ were part of the Judgement & Referee council those who conducted all bouts smoothly.
