KAITHAL: The court of Sessions Judge Ritu YK Bahal has convicted two accused in the case of snatching a chain from a woman and sentenced them to 5 years and 2 years respectively. Besides, the court has also fined both of them Rs 10, 000 and Rs 5, 000. In case of non-payment of fine, the main accused will have to undergo two months' imprisonment and the co-accused will have to undergo one month's imprisonment.
In this regard, Dinesh Mehta, resident of Siwan, had registered case number 257 under section 379-A at Siwan police station on 2 November 2021. DDA Jasbir Dhanda argued the case on behalf of the prosecution. Quoting the court file, Jasbir Dhanda said that complainant Dinesh Mehta alias Pappu Mehta resident Sivan dropped his wife Veena Mehta from the car near Dhaula Darwaza to go home on the evening of 1 November 2021. On the way, an unknown young man snatched a chain weighing about 3 tola from his wife's neck, pushed it and ran away. Due to this, Veena fell down and got injuries on her hand and knee. Later he sold this chain to a goldsmith Ravi Verma. On this the police added section 411 IPC in the case. On the basis of this complaint, the police registered a case and during investigation, identified the accused Virendra alias Binder and Ravi Verma and arrested them.
The police prepared a challan and presented it in the court. A total of eight witnesses were presented in the case. After hearing both the sides, the session judge, in his 22-page decision, found Virendra alias Binder and Ravi Verma guilty and sentenced both of them to 5 years and two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10, 000 and Rs 5, 000 respectively. Convict Ravi Verma has deposited the fine amount.
