PHILLAUR:Continuing the rapid pace of development in Phillaur assembly constituency, former Punjab Youth Congress president and constituency in charge Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary laid foundation stones of multiple development projects worth Rs 1.38 crore in villages Rurka Kalan, Rurka Khurd and Mahal here on Monday.
The works include construction of link roads from Rurka Khurd Colony to Mahal at 37.76 lakhs, from Rurka Khurd – Atta Road to Kamaalpur at Rs 29.5 lakhs, and Rurka Khurd to Atta at Rs 25.96 lakhs. Market Committee Goraya would execute these projects.
Additionally, various projects were kickstarted in Rurka Kalan under the Punjab Nirman Programme of the Punjab government, which would be completed at the cost of Rs 44.75 lakhs. These new projects include construction installation of reverse osmosis (RO) water purification system, construction of a community hall and a dharamshala, the building of an underground pipeline from the pond for irrigation of agricultural fields, construction of a women’s gymnasium, building a badminton court in Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) and construction of streets with interlocking tiles.
Addressing multiple gatherings after laying foundation stones, Vikramjit Chaudhary said that the people of Phillaur were overjoyed at the amount of development that happened during the tenure of the Congress government.
“During the ten years of Shiromani Akali Dal – BJP government, Phillaur saw no development and the roads were in dilapidated condition. The people were suffering, but nothing was done to improve their living conditions. We have done more work in the last five years than it was done in the previous ten years, ” he said.
The residents of Rurka Kalan, Rurka Khurd, Mahal and other villages thanked Vikramjit Chaudhary for starting the new works.
We had also urged the previous Akali-BJP government several times to sanction these projects, but, they said, our requests fell on deaf ears.
Chaudhary instructed the concerned officials to complete the works on time.
