US Based Agriculture Engineer Visits Khalsa College, Says Punjab Needs to Save Ground Water

AMRITSAR: The ground water table is receding fast in Punjab and there is dire need to take drastic measure to save the water, failing which the results would be catastrophic. This was stated by US based agriculture engineer Bob Willy, a California based experts who invented Refible technology to `re-energise’ the ground water.

Bob who along with Charanjeet alias Charlie Tiwana, Vice-President, Strategic Investments from Sacramento, California (USA) visited Khalsa College said this after an interaction with the agriculture faculty here. While stressing on the awareness and concerted efforts to save ground water which sustains life and agriculture, said his technique involved making deep trenches which are dug up and filled with fiber which helps in bringing up the water level.

Earlier he was welcomed by Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honorary Secretary, Khalsa College Charitable Society and Principal Dr. Mehal Singh who also discussed various issues confronting the farming sector in Punjab. He also talked about the nature of soil in Punjab and the natural methods used to kill pests and save water. The US experts said that Punjab is the grain basket of India and if the agriculture faces any challenge here it will affect the food security of the whole of the country and thus measures should be taken to deal with the emerging situation.

The Dr. Didar Singh Associate Professor, Department of Agriculture and Navneen  Bawa, Prof. Satnam Singh were present during the program as the US farming experts also took the round of the soil labs in the college,
