AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has written to Gurdwara Election Commissioner Justice SS Saron and has filed objections regarding the preliminary lists published by the Commission regarding the general elections of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
He said that the names of many non-Sikhs are appearing in the published lists, whose names do not include Singh and Kaur. Apart from this, photo identification for voter identification was also not included in the lists. The Sikh Sangat is also facing great difficulties in getting the published lists.
Advocate Dhami said that under this ongoing process, it is not possible to file objections in a proper manner and this shows the willfulness of the Punjab government, regarding which the Shiromani Committee has already expressed concern.
He said that it seems that the lists without photographs have been prepared by the BLO posted at the booth level instead of the forms submitted by the voters with photographs from the lists related to the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections.
He said that for better administrative system of Shiromani Committee, it is necessary that voters should be registered properly as per the rules to elect members of this organization.
In the written letter, Advocate Dhami has demanded from the Chief Commissioner Gurdwara Elections that the availability of voter lists online and at the established centers should be ensured. In view of the instructions of the Gurdwara Election Commission to submit forms with photographs during the voter registration process, the lists should be published along with the photographs of the voters, so that it can be known that the person who is going to be a voter is a proven Sikh/Kesadhari Sikh.
They also demanded the issuance of orders to strike out the names of non-Sikhs.
