SANGRUR: Computer teachers of government schools in Sangrur have been on hunger strike for 131 days regarding their demands. The fast unto death initiated by Johnny Singla and Comrade Ranjit Singh in this ongoing protest in front of the DC office has now entered its 19th day. On Saturday, January 11, computer teachers will hold a massive protest rally at the provincial level in front of Aam Aadmi Party's state president Aman Arora's residence in Sunam.
During this time, "Lohri of False Promises" will be celebrated by burning a large number of 'brooms' - the election symbol of the Aam Aadmi Party. Leaders and workers from other organizations will join computer teachers from across the state in Sunam for this action. Punjab's computer teachers are now in the mood for a decisive battle. They say that until their demands are met, they will intensify their struggle.
Computer Adhyapak Bhukh Hadtal Sangharsh Committee leaders Paramvir Singh Pammi and Pardeep Kumar Maluka stated that several rounds of meetings have been held with the government and ministers regarding their demands. Despite reaching agreements in these meetings, their demands have not been fulfilled yet. They said that the government continues to give false assurances, due to which the teaching community has lost faith in the government.
The Single Demand of the Movement
Computer teachers clarified that their main demand is to be unconditionally merged into the Education Department along with restoration of all benefits including the Sixth Pay Commission.
Otherwise, "Jail Bharo" Movement Will Begin
The protesters warned that if their demands are not met soon, they will launch a "Jail Bharo Movement" (Fill the Jails Movement). They also said that their struggle is no longer limited to just the teaching community; the common people of Punjab are also standing shoulder to shoulder with them against the injustice being done by the Punjab government to computer teachers.
