-Says private schools less in number but made higher enrolment.
CHANDIGARH: Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra today questioned the claims of improvement in school education system made by AAP government in Punjab.
In a press statement Mohindra said that latest data released by Unified District Information System for education plus report has shown that enrolment of students has declined in government schools in the year 2023-24 while private schools being less in number have enrolled higher number of students.
He added that total enrolment in Punjab schools has increase in last year and 59.88 lakh student got admission. Only 28.23 lakh students are admitted in government schools. He said total number of government schools is 27404 and 19242 are government schools against only 7704 private schools.
PYC president said I was matter of shame that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and education minister Harjot Bains were making false propaganda that government schools are becoming popular and education system has improved. He said that the report has ripped apart lies of AAP government.
Mohindra said that private schools has also better pupil teacher ratio than government schools. Private schools has ratio of 1.42 lakh and government schools only 1.26 lakh. He said that due to lack of proper facilities and teachers in government run schools, people are forced to admit their children in private schools. He said he number of government schools has also decreased in state during 2023-24.
He further said that only 86.88 percent students in Punjab have submitted their Adhar card while other states has ratio of upto 95 percent. He alleged bogus admissions are being made in government schools in Punjab to show better performance.
