KAPURTHALA: In a hard hitting statement released today, Sukhpal Singh Khaira MLA and former Leader of Opposition severely castigated the Badals for appointing a tainted and corrupt leader like Bibi Jagir Kaur as President of the prestigious SGPC. Khaira said it shows that the Akali Dal is bereft of fresh blood and clean leadership and is also politically bankrupt unable to find any respectable Sikh leader to head the SGPC.
Khaira said it is pertinent to mention here, that Bibi Jagir Kaur had to step down as SGPC president due to the infamous Harpreet Kaur murder case, wherein she was not only responsible for murdering her daughter but also got the fetus forcibly aborted, besides keeping her in illegal custody. Khaira said Bibi Jagir Kaur may have got away from legal scrutiny due to the influence wielded by her and her political bosses the Badal family, but she remains an object of hatred in the eyes of Sikh community.
Khaira said it is a matter of record, that although CBI never appealed against the acquittal of Bibi Jagir Kaur and others in the Supreme Court but Kamaljeet Singh complainant against Bibi Jagir Kaur has filed criminal appeals against Bibi Jagir Kaur & others. Khaira said the said criminal appeals are pending in the Supreme Court under the title of Kamaljeet Singh vs Bibi Jagir Kaur & others vide Criminal Appeal No. 992 of 2019, where all the accused have been served notices by the Registrar and the case/appeal would be heard shortly in the Supreme Court.
Khaira said apart from her criminal propensities Bibi Jagir Kaur has also been accused of usurping prime 22 acres of Nagar Panchayat (NAC) Begowal land worth approx. Rs.100 crores, about which an appeal is pending before the Lokpal Punjab since 2011. Khaira said because Bibi Jagir Kaur wielded influence during the previous Badal government, the complainant in the matter Mr George Subh had also approached the honourable High Court of Punjab & Haryana vide CWP number 11646 of 2014, the next date of hearing of which has been fixed for 19.02.2021.
Khaira said it was surprising that a person who has not only been accused and convicted of a murder case and that too of her own daughter and has also been accused of illegally occupying government land in her own village worth Rs. 100 crores, has been appointed to the august office of SGPC. Khaira said by appointing Bibi Jagir Kaur as President of SGPC, the Badal family has once again demonstrated that the religious body is their personal fiefdom that needs to be run by a rubber stamp like her. Khaira said the appointment of Bibi Jagir Kaur as President has also lowered the prestige of SGPC, once a glorious institution of the Sikhs which is no more independent. Khaira urged all SGPC members to look inwards and ask their conscious if the appointment of a tainted and corrupt leader like Bibi Jagir Kaur is justified? As they are ultimately answerable to the court of “waherguru”.
