KAPURTHALA: MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh said that the work on village ponds , constructed under Thapar model to be completed before the moonsoon season so that the rain water could be used for irrigation purposes.
Today while visiting the villages of Dhamm, Lakhan Khurd, Kot Karar Khan and Khojewal in the constituency to review the ongoing work on village ponds , he said that " it would not only save the precious ground water but also reduce the possibility of vector born and seasonal dieseses in these villages.
It may be recalled that the Kapurthala constituency was selected to implement the pilot project at a cost of Rs.7.37 crore by the Punjab Government. With that the ponds were being constructed in 23 villages with state-of-the-art technology under which rain water would be stored and village drainage would be used for irrigation.
MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh, who personally visits every village to have a look at the construction work to ensure that work could be expedited besides ensuring the quality .
The ponds were being constructed at a cost of Rs.23.48 lakh at Dham, Rs.49 lakh at Lakhan Khurd, Rs.23 lakh at Kot Karar Khan and Rs.49 lakh at Khojewal.
Rana Gurjit Singh applauded the people of village Lakhan Khurd and Dham and said that people should make good use of the grants being given by the Punjab government for the development of villages to keep their surroundings clean and tidy.
