Punjab Roadways employees thrash father of woman passenger seeking free travel ticket

ROPAR: Following a dispute over a woman passenger demanding free travel ticket from conductor of a Punjab Roadways bus, the roadways staff beat up father of the passenger who reached at local bus stand on call by his daughter.

The girl belonging to village Khuaspura in Ropar district is a student in a Patiala college and she boarded bus from Gurdawarta Dukh Niwaran Sahib to reach Rupnagar. Despite showing her Aadhaar card, the bus conductor issued her ticket and demanded fair. She insisted that Punjab Government had made travel free for women. Bus conductor however refused to accept the arguments.

The girl called her father and told him to reach Rupnagar bus stand to resolve the issue. When father of woman reached Rupnagar bus stand to receive her daughter, he confronted the bus conductor over the issue. After heated exchange of words, the roadways employees thrashed father of the girl and removed his turban. 

Father of the woman approached the police but police failed to help the victims. SHO Chaudhary Rajiv Kumar when contacted said that both parties had came to police station and they struck a compromise.

A video of beating of father of woman passenger also went viral on social media.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had on April 1 inagurated the scheme of free travel for women residents of Punjab. During last two days about one lakh women had taken advantage of the scheme.
