Punjab Arts International felicitates UK based artist Gulshan Dhingra owner of famous Gulshan Radio

Punjabi language is flourishing in UK, facing problems in India, says Dhingra
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Arts International, a socio-cultural organisation today felicitated a theater artist Gulshan Dhingra and his wife Kulwinder Kaur Heer  at a function held at Punjab Kala Bhawan i Sector 16 here. Gulshan Dhingra is owner of Gulshan Radio, highly popular in Asian community in UK.

Punjab Arts council had organised the function to remember the famous theater personalities like renowned late Dr.Harcharan Singh, late Gursharan Singh Bhaji, late Bhag Singh, Musician H.M.Singh and Ustad Garib Dass Dholi who dedicated their lives for Punjabi language and theater. Narinder Nindi President of Punjab Arts International said that they were indebted to great personalities like Dr.Harcharan Singh who shaped the future of Punjabi theater. He lauded the services of Gulshan Dingra who worked for long time for Jalandhar Doordarshan, .He noted the contribution of Dhingra and his wife Kanwardeep Kaur for promotion of Punjabi language in UK.

Gulshan Dhingra while hailing the role of Punjab Arts International said that Punjabis living in UK and other countries love their roots and work hard to promote Punjabi language. The Punjabis classes are run in the Gurudwaras. He said that UK government recognise Punjabi as a subject in schools and offices. He said that the real danger to Punjabi language is in India. He said that more efforts were needed to promote Punjabi in Punjab.

Gulshan Dhingra said that radio run by him in UK was a tribute to Punjabi community which is prospering in UK. He said that Gulshan Radio was first Asian Radio in UK and it will be written in the history. He also said that situation in foreign countries was not favorable for the students at this time. He remembered his memories of Doordarshan and his days of Punjab University.

The programme started with a song of Heer Varish Hah presented by Sarabjit Bhasin and 'Moula' by Surinder Kohinoor. Film Director Gurbakash Latta shared his memories of Punjabi cinema.

Others who were present included Prof Sarabjit Singh, Prof Gurmel Singh and Gurbakash Singh Latta, Davinder Singh Jugni president of Dhara Bhaichara Fedration Punjab, Principal Avtar Singh, Simratpal Kaur, Harpreet, Malkiat Mataur, Ravinder Ravi and Poonam Arora.
