PHILLAUR:Local Congress elected representatives from
Phillaur on Friday urged the party leadership to announce Vikramjit
Singh Chaudhary’s candidature for the forthcoming assembly elections
as AICC Secretary Chetan Chauhan visited the constituency.
At a meeting with Punjab Congress affairs secretary Chetan Chauhan at
Vikramjit Chaudhary’s residence, members of Zila Parishad, Block
Panchayat Samitis, Municipal Councils, Market Committees, and
panchayats said the party workers were working with enthusiasm at the
grassroots level after Charanjit Singh Channi took over as Chief
Minister of the state.
“We are witnessing a wave of Congress in all the areas, and everyone
appreciates the initiatives taken by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh
Channi. At this time, the timely announcement of candidates for
upcoming polls is vital as other major parties have already declared
many of their contenders, ” they said.
The leaders further stated that since 2017, the Congress party had won
all the elections in the Phillaur constituency, including Lok Sabha,
Zila Parishad, block panchayat samitis, municipal councils, market
committees and gram panchayats, adding that now it was time to win the
assembly poll and send Vikramjit Chaudhary to Vidhan Sabha.
Responding to their demand, Chetan Chauhan assured that the party
would announce its candidates soon and there would be no delay like
the last time.
“All the Congress workers should gear up for the upcoming elections
and work hard to ensure the party’s victory, ” he said.
During the meeting, Vikramjit Chaudhary apprised Chetan Chauhan about
political developments in Phillaur. Both the leaders deliberated in
detail about the strategy for upcoming assembly polls.
