AMRITSAR: On 3nd October 2024, marking Gandhi Jayanti, 485 NCC girl cadets and staff from the 1 Punjab Girls Battalion celebrated "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" - a Tree Plantation Drive and Swachata Hi Seva with the theme 'Swabhaav Swachata - Sanskaar Swachata' during the Combined Annual Training Camp at R R Bawa DAV College, Batala. The event was honored by the presence of Commandant HS Bajwa (Retd) and officials from the RR Bawa DAV College.

The program kicked off by emphasizing the significance and vision of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative. The cadets learned about the nationwide efforts, the vital role trees play in our lives and how closely they resemble the nurturing qualities of a Mother. Each cadet and staff member took a pledge, committing themselves to the noble cause and responsibility of protecting the environment by planting trees. At the end of the event, 300 saplings were planted in the college gardens, symbolizing their dedication to being responsible citizens and protecting the Earth for future generations.

Following the plantation drive, the cadets watched two inspiring awareness

videos on "Swachata Hi Seva Key Pillars" and the "Swachata Hi Seva Anthem, "

becoming more conscious of the Nationwide cleanliness efforts. This was followed

by an important brief on the role cleanliness plays in our daily lives, after which they

took a pledge to integrate these values into their everyday activities.

A group photo with the dignitaries captured the spirit of unity and the cadets then took their commitment to the streets of Batala conducting an awareness rally to spread the message of "Swachata Hi Seva, Swabhaav Swachata Sanskaar Swachata." The event concluded with a hands-on cleanliness drive in the local park of the town where cadets collected plastic and bottles gaining first-hand experience of the impact cleanliness can have on our surroundings.

These activities instilled a sense of pride in these young cadets and also reminded them of the powerful role they play in shaping a greener, cleaner and brighter future for the Nation. Through their dedication, they serve as an inspiration to all young people, showing that every small effort starting with 'the Self' can create a ripple effect towards a better tomorrow.
