NDRF and Army complete nearly 23 hours of continuous rescue work
SAS NAGAR: The district administration completed the 23-hour continuous rescue work at the building collapse site in Mohali (Sohana) by 4:30 pm today with the cooperation of NDRF and Army, Police, Municipal Corporation and Health Department.
Disclosing details, Acting Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidke, SSP Deepak Pareek and Municipal Corporation Commissioner T. Benith said that the major operation to rescue the people trapped in the rubble, whose exact number could not be known initially, got a boost when a seriously injured woman was pulled out of the rubble late in the evening. After this, after the operation that lasted till 4:30 pm today, the NDRF It was clarified that there is no possibility of any other person being buried under the debris.
Briefing the media after the completion of the rescue operation, Mr. Viraj Tidke in the presence of SSP Deepak Pareek and MC Commissioner T Benith said that about 600 NDRF, Army and Police and civil employees and officers were involved in this operation. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the key players of the rescue operation, NDRF and Army and appreciated the police, municipal corporation, civil and other departments who worked round the clock to complete the operation in a timely manner.
He said that 140 members of the NDRF team, 167 of the Army's 57 Engineer Regiment, 300 of the local police and members of the rest of the concerned departments were involved in this operation and everyone performed their responsibility with dedication.
Giving information about the deaths during the accident, Mr. Viraj S. Tidke further said that till the completion of this entire operation, two deaths were reported, including one from Himachal Drishti Verma (20) and the other from Ambala Abhishek Dhanwal (30). He said that the debris was thoroughly examined by the NDRF before declaring the operation complete.
During this operation, the NDRF was provided with the necessary machinery from the Municipal Corporation in addition to the machinery already with them.
He said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the responsibility of this incident. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mohali Damandeep Kaur has been entrusted with the responsibility of the inquiry and she has been asked to submit a report within three weeks.
The entire operation was closely monitored by the district civil and police officers till its completion.
ADC (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SP District Police Jyoti Yadav Bains, DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and other officers were present during the relief operations today.
