AMRITSAR: Ghallughara Day was observed today to mark 37th annovesary of Operation Blue Star, army action launched in the Golden Temple on June 2, 1984. It led to death of hundereds of devotees and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala on June 6.
During the ceremony, the activists of Dal Khalsa who demonstrated raised the Khalisan slogans, seeking an indenpendent state for Sikhs. SAD(Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann, Dal Khalsa general secretary Kanwarpal Singh, Deep Sidhu and Paramjit Kaur Khalra wife of Human Rights activist late Jaswant Singh Khalra were present during the function.
Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh appealed to Sikh sangat not to use word "blue star operation" but use word 'Ghallughara Divas' to desribe the army action on Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs. He appealed to all Sikhs to unite and fought agaisnt anti-Sikh forces.
SGPC president Bini Jagir Kaur also addressed the function and appealed Sikhs not to forgive those attacked Sikh temple.
