CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday. Renowned Punjabi artist Sonia Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of the party's National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
In a formal ceremony, Kejriwal, along with other AAP leaders, welcomed Sonia Mann into the party. AAP had dejected Sonia Mann in 2017 in allotment of party tickets. Bhagwant Mann had prefereed Gagan Anmol Mann over Sonia Mann. Anmola was made minsiter and removed later following allegations of corruption and non-performance. Sonia Mann is the daughter of Kirti Kisan Union leader Sardar Baldev Singh. She also played a significant role in the Delhi farmers' movement. Sonia has been actively involved in social service for a long time and often raises important social and political issues through social media.
Sonia meets BJP minister Shekhawat
Sonia Mann had recently met the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasised the necessity of establishing branches of the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), and the National School of Drama (NSD) in Punjab.
Addressing the media after joining the party, Sonia Mann thanked AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. She expressed her admiration for the leadership and work of both leaders.
She said, "Impressed by the work of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, I decided to join 'AAP.' I felt that only this party could provide me with an opportunity to work for the people. Whenever I approached any AAP MLA or minister with any work, they prioritised it."
She specifically mentioned Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, highlighting how the Health Minister acted upon her request to establish anti-drug committees in villages and restore the Vivekananda Health Centre located within Amritsar Medical College.
Sonia Mann praised the AAP government for ensuring that all government schemes benefit people on the ground, unlike earlier times when many schemes remained confined to paper. She also commended the government's decision to display photos of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in government offices, calling it an example of good politics.
