LUDHIANA: Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh former Dean College of Veterinary Science and Dean Postgraduate Studies, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) Ludhiana has been elected, unanimously, as President of the prestigious Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery (ISVS) at its 43rd annual congress and National Symposium held at the College of Veterinary Sciences, Hisar, from 14-16 Nov 2019. Dr. Singh informed that the society will have a major role at the national level to strengthen veterinary and animal sciences in general and veterinary surgery, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging in particular.
He further said that GADVASU will play a pivotal role in the revision of curriculum, strengthening teaching, clinical practice and research. Dr. Singh is currently working as Superintendent of GADVASU Hospital and Professor. He has played a key role to strengthen Veterinary Surgery and Radiology at GADVASU. He has been responsible for introducing a number of new surgical techniques in bovine, equine and small animals and accomplished many research projects to strengthen applied and clinical research.
Four faculty and nine postgraduate students of the Surgery and Radiology the department, also attended and presented one lead paper and 11 clinical research articles, and won 3 research paper awards. In equine surgery session, a research paper, “Diagnosis and surgical removal of granulosa theca cell tumor in mares” by Drs. A. Anand, S.S. Singh, D. Pathak, J. Khosa, R. Udehiya, S.K. Mahajan and V. Sangwan have won Gold medal for Best research paper. A research paper from the Ph.D. research “Clinical studies on shear wave elastography of liver in apparently healthy dogs” by Drs. D. Sharma, J. Mohindroo, N. Kashyap, S.K. Mahajan and T. Singh was adjudged as the second best paper in Radiology and Imaging session. A poster, entitled “Surgical management of patellar luxation in a 3.5-year H.F cross cattle” by Drs. H.S. Sodhi, V.K. Shukla and A. Anand won appreciation award. Dr. Arun Anand presented a lead paper in the equine surgery. Besides, Drs. SS Singh, A. Kumar and R. Udehiya chaired various scientific session as co-chairman and Rapporteur during this conference.
The Vice-Chancellor Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda congratulated Dr. Simrat and applauded the hard work done by the faculty and PG students of the department.
