CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) has backed the call for a peaceful nationwide strike called by the farmers’ organisations on December 8 against the anti-farmer agricultural laws. Rajya Sabha MP and party president S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa in a statement on Sunday said that he was fully involved and supporting the agitation being waged by the Kisan unions against the centre’s recent agricultural laws.

Besides his party workers, S. Dhindsa appealed to the general public to extend their support and cooperation to the December 8 Bharat Bandh call. He said that farmers of Punjab had shown the way to the farmers of the country and thus, in order to intensify their struggle, the Bharat Bandh must be made a success. “The nationwide closure should give a message that the Union government should be compelled to bow down and immediately repeal these black agricultural laws, ” he added.

Dhindsa said that the farmers had done well by rejecting the suggestion of the government to amend the laws. He said the centre should meet the demands as soon as possible and resolve the issues of agitating ‘annadatas’ on priority, providing them relief. S. Dhindsa said that the party was raising the voice of the farmers and stands shoulder to shoulder with them in every struggle and assists their agitation till the agricultural laws are repealed.
