Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency being developed as religious, adventure tourist hub

CHANDIGARH: Shri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency is all set to be developed as a religious, historical and adventure tourist hub.

A high level meeting for the purpose was held in Chandigarh on Friday, which was attended among others by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Rana KP Singh, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Technical Education in the Punjab government, Charanjit Singh Channi, local MP Manish Tewari and senior government officials.

Disclosing this here today, Manish Tewari said, Shri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency has the privilege of being the birthplace of the Khalsa. Also, he added, the holy place of Chamkaur Sahib, where two elder Sahibzadas laid down their lives fighting the mighty Mughal army also falls in the same constituency.

Besides, he said, the ancestral place of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh also falls in the same constituency in Khatkar Kallan in Nawanshahr district.

He said, the Punjab government, with assistance from the government of India is already developing a religious tourism circuit connecting the holy cities of Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib and other holy and historic places.

He said, the process of developing the circuit has already started. He said, Friday’s meeting was held to ensure that the process is expedited and whatever further needed to be done at the level of the state or central governments will be followed up on priority basis.

Besides the religious and historic tourism, Tewari said, there was a great scope for water sports in Ropar and he had already started exploring the options by seeking consultation from the experts. He expressed confidence that very soon, Shri Anandpur Sahib will be as one of the top most priority for tourists for both religious as well as adventure tourism.

Tewari expressed his gratitude to the Speaker Rana KP and Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as also the government officials who are according top priority to the project.
