PHILLAUR: Aam Aadmi Party has made a big issue of putting up
photos of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in government offices, but to pay him a
real tribute, the party should send a member of his family to Rajya
Sabha, said Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary on Monday as the
AAP declared the names of its candidates for election to the Upper
House of Parliament on Monday.
Five seats in Rajya Sabha from Punjab will fall vacant on April 9 and
the other two MPs will retire on July 4.
Vikramjit Chaudhary said that Aam Aadmi Party has appropriated the
symbols such as turban etc related to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and has
claimed to follow his ideology, but in reality, the party does not
seem to be doing so.
"AAP is sending five persons to Rajya Sabha from Punjab and I believe
that at least one person should be from the family of Shaheed Bhagat
Singh ji. It is my humble suggestion and I request the Chief Minister
of Punjab Bhagwant Mann ji to dedicate one Rajya Sabha seat to Shaheed
Bhagat Singh ji, " he said.
He further stated that CM Mann even went to Bhagat Singh’s ancestral
village Khatkar Kalan to take oath and therefore, it was vital that
the symbolism was accompanied by action.
Vikramjit added that the election of a family member of the great
martyr to Rajya Sabha would be a real tribute to his memory
