NAWANSHAHR: A delegation of Aam Aadmi Party led by Shiv Kaura, General Secretary, Trade and Industry Wing, Punjab, here today called on Deepjot Kaur, Assistant Commissioner, Nawanshahr to apprise the administration of their pitiable plight during the present lockdown orders. Other members of the wing including Gagan Agnihotri, Tejinder Teja, Rajesh Chumbar members were also present.
Shiv Kaura later said that they told the administration that a kind of recession has been going on in the country since last year, which has had a devastating effect on all sections including traders and small shopkeepers. In this era of inflation and recession, the government has not given any relief to traders. As a result, workers are in deep financial trouble due to labor, debt, loan interests and other tax-related expenses. Traders who were still emerging have been brought back under financial pressure through recent sanctions. The government once again has declared a semi-lockdown in Punjab and has stopped all employment. Surprisingly, banks and liquor stores are open. But small and medium traders and shopkeepers have been asked to keep their shutters closed. While there are plans to reopen the business in phases, this will not make up for the loss. The party understands that the country and the state are going through difficult times, but keeping in view the interests of small shopkeepers and traders, the Aam Aadmi Party Trade Wing District Nawanshahr team has urged the state government to waive electricity bills, taxes and loan interest. "We hope that the administration will take our above demands seriously and take appropriate action, " he said.
District Media President Chandra Mohan JD said that the administration has been asked to start a roster for the benefit of all the shopkeepers.
