CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced to contest the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) elections along with the Azad Group of former mayor Kulwant Singh. In an official statement issued from the party headquarters, the party said that the municipal bodies' elections to be held on February 14 would be fought jointly with the Azad Group Mohali. The party said that joint candidates would contest on all the 50 seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party had agreed to contest the municipal bodies' elections with honest people in association with the Azad Group, so that the public would not face problems in the municipal corporation.

The press statement further stated that the Congress and the Akalis, while in power, had worked to fill their pockets and for their loved ones, instead of working for the welfare of the people. "Our sole goal is to bring forward those who work for the people, " the statement said. It was further stated that despite being a Cabinet Minister from Mohali, the activities in the city were being stopped. The statement said that the main objective of the party was to keep the traditional parties out of power in the municipal corporation and to make honest and educated people win so that there would be no discrimination against the people and development of the city.

It was stated that  ever since the Congress government came to power, the Congress leaders had obstructed the functioning of the corporation. "Files of many developmental works in the city were kept in government offices which was supposed to alleviate many problems of the people", the statement added. The statement further said that keeping in view the need to complete the work halted by the Congress party and for the city's development; it was decided to contest the Mohali Municipal Corporation elections in collaboration with the Azad Group of former Mayor Kulwant Singh. The party appealed to the people of the city to vote for qualified, educated and honest candidates so that work can be done for the development of the city.
