Call to protest on October 9 against Supreme Court orders on SYL, raids and arrests of News Click journalists

CHANDIGARH: Kirti Kisan Union has call the people of Punjab to protest on October 9 against the anti-Punjab decision of the Supreme Court on SYL and against the raids and filing of cases against Newsclick journalists.

State President of Kirti Kisan Union Nirbhai Singh Dhudike has clearly said that not even a drop of water is spare in Punjab. The Union will not allow the construction of the Sutlej Yamna Link Canal. If the survey team sets foot in Punjab, it will be strongly opposed.

State General Secretary of the Union Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala and Press Secretary Raminder Singh Patiala while issuing a statement to the press said that the central government has always ignored riparian principles and pushed Punjab by neglecting the sensitive issue of river waters. The successive state governments of Punjab have also done electoral politics on this issue. Today, when Punjab is going through a serious water crisis, steps are being taken to accelerate the efforts being made to seize the river waters of Punjab. Terming the orders of the Supreme Court as anti-Punjab, the farmer leaders said that if the survey team sets foot on the land of Punjab, it will be strongly opposed.

The farmer leaders said that according to the constitution, water is the subject of the states, so the central government cannot issue any executive orders about it. Already in the Punjab Reorganization Act, through articles 78, 79 and 80, paving the way for central intervention, the rights of Punjab was looted.He demanded the Punjab government to resolve this sensitive issue according to Riparian principle and demand royalty of river water from Rajasthan.he warned the Aam Aadmi Party to refrain from taking any kind of anti-Punjab compromising stand for political gains in Rajasthan and Haryana.

The farmer leaders strongly condemned the Delhi Police's raids on journalists associated with Newsclick and filing cases under UAPA at the behest of the central government, saying that these journalists are being targeted for reporting the struggle of the Citizenship Amendment Act and Kisan morcha. He said that the ink was not even dry on the Modi government signature on the declaration of commitment to the freedom of ideas in the G20 that it had left the reins of the NIA, ED and CBI loose to suppress anti-government voices.

Farmer leaders have call the people of Punjab to register their protest by protesting at the district, tehsil and block levels on October 9.
