CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association(PCMSA), which had announced plans to renew its protest from Jan 20 while alleging a delay in the fulfilment of promises made by the state govt, has deferred its call for agitation by four days, until Jan 23, a spokesperson of the PCMSA said on Sunday.

While asserting that despite promises by the govt to address the issues and do the needful, the PCMSA ammounced the agitation over stalled assured career progressions, a shortage of medical pfficers, and an unsafe working environment.

"Detailed, fruitful deliberations were held on Jan 17 between the senior health department functionaries and PCMSA Punjab, " said the spokesperson, adding that "the proposals drafted by the health department were discussed in detail and were eventually endorsed bt the PCMSA." The spokspeerson further satted, "As part of the on-table talks, PCMSA was apprised that the required notification will be issued expeditiously, possibly in the first half of the upcoming week."

The PCMSA said the call for agitation stood deferred as the association reposed "faith in the govt, duly acknowledging the sincere efforts put in by the department of health for the prompt issuance of notification effectively aimed at resolving the core issues of the public health care." The spokesperson said the next PCMSA general body meeting will be held at 5pm on Jna 23.
