AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has congratulated a large number of Punjabis, especially Sikh representatives, in the Canadian federal elections, expressing happiness. He said that it is a matter of great pride for the Sikh community and all Punjabis that these candidates have proved their leadership in Canadian politics by winning and have raised the heads of Punjabis.
Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this victory is the result of the hard work, honesty and humanitarian services of Punjabis. He said that Punjabis, especially Sikhs, living abroad are not only maintaining their communal identity in the direction of their heritage, education, ethics and history, but are also playing an influential role in global politics.
The SGPC President expressed hope that these elected Sikh and Punjabi MPs will represent the trust of the people in Canada politically while upholding their religious values. Advocate Dhami also congratulated the Liberal Party and its leader Mark Carney for emerging in the Canadian general elections.
He said that he hopes that the winning candidate will work for social justice and the welfare of all sections.
Meanwhile , Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) office bearers today hailed the victory of its various alumni in the Canadian parliamentary elections.
They said they were proud of its senior almuni Sukh Dhaliwal winning for the record six times as MP from Surrey on Liberal party ticket while Jagsharan Singh Mahal winning for the first time as MP from Edmonton on Conservative party ticket.
Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor and KCGC Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said it is a proud moment for them as their alumni have achieved big in Canadian politics. He said Sukh Dhaliwal is presently one of the senior most politician from the community in Canada who has been winning successive polls from Surrey—Newton since 2015. Sukh did his pre engineering from Khalsa College Amritsar before moving to Canada in 1980s.
Dhaliwal who is presently Director (Overseas) of khalsa college Amritsar Global Alumni Association KCAGAA had visited his alma mater in 2018 along with MPs from Canada including Sonia Sidhu, whose father was also alumni of Khalsa College, Randeep Singh Sarai and Canadian deputy leader of Parliament Kevin Lamoureux. Chhina and others welcomed them on campus as they were accorded a grand reception by students and staff.
Khalsa College Amritsar Global Alumni Association Convenor Dr.Davinder Singh Chhina also congratulated all Sikh-Punjabi MPs who won the elections today. He termed the victory of the Punjabis as victory of khalsa collegiates and whole of Punjabis around the world. “Sukh Dhaliwal is the pride of Khalsa College and has always supported the cause of overseas Punjabis and Indians settled in Canada and his re election would definitely strengthen the cross country relations and global academic and cultural relations ‘ said Dr.Davinder Chhina.
He added that Jagsharan Singh Mahal who is elected as an MP from Edmonton South East Riding did his his bachelors from Khalsa College Amritsar 1996-1999.
