Major drug haul: Heroin and banned tablets seized in Ganna village
PHAGWARA: In an early morning Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) against drugs, , the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested five persons, including a wanted woman smuggler, and seized significant quantities of narcotics from Ganna village in Punjab's Phillaur subdivision on Sunday.
The operation, which involved cordoning off the entire village before conducting systematic searches, was carried out under the direct supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Phillaur Swaran Singh Bal Three separate teams led by SHO police station Phillaur of the Rural Police strategically positioned themselves around the village perimeter before launching coordinated raids at multiple locations.
Speaking about the the success of operation, the senior superintendent of police Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said, “CASO operation was meticulously planned after receiving specific intelligence inputs about drug peddling activities in Ganna village. The Police teams have firstly secured all entry and exit points before conducting house-to-house searches in identified areas, "
During the operation, which lasted several hours, the police teams made a series of arrests and recoveries. The first team, cordoned off the Lassara village area and apprehended Jatinder Kumar (alias Bya), son of Chaman Lal, and Davinder Kumar (alias Mota), son of Tek Chand. The team recovered 150 Etizolam tablets from their possession.
Simultaneously, the second team secured another sector of Ganna village, leading to the arrest of Rohan Kumar (alias Shekhu/Buddi), son of Raj Kumar, and the recovery of 12 grams of heroin. In a parallel action, the third team arrested Ninder (alias Morni), wife of Surjit Kumar, seizing another 150 Etizolam tablets.
The operation achieved a significant breakthrough with the arrest of Kashmir Kaur, wife of Naseeb Chand, who had been evading arrest in connection with FIR No. 273 dated October 9, 2024, registered under Sections 21/29-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station. Her arrest came after the police teams systematically narrowed down the search perimeter.
Following the successful CASO operation, the police have registered three separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The total recovery includes 12 grams of heroin and 300 Etizolam tablets, highlighting the diverse nature of drug trafficking in the region.
"CASO operations are particularly effective in areas where drug paddlers might try to escape or dispose of contraband. By securing the entire area first, the police teams ensure maximum operational success, " a SSP Khakh official explained, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The accused will be produced before the local court, where the police will seek their remand for further investigation into the broader drug trafficking network operating in the region.
